Does a Hair Transplant Come with a Guarantee?

Just like with anything in life, when we’re embarking on something that could change the way we feel about ourselves, we naturally want to look for some kind of guarantee. When it comes to a cosmetic procedure, like a hair transplant procedure, we’re especially keen to know and understand what the likelihood of success is going to be.

Some of us might think in numbers, like “what percentage chance do I have of my hair transplant being successful” or “how many people like me, have a positive outcome after hair restoration surgery”? Others might be looking for a cast iron guarantee that their hair transplant will 100% end up in them with a luscious head of flowing locks.

But we need to be realistic. This much sought after head of long, Disney prince or princess hair is probably a pipe dream. However, accepting that you will see a marked difference in your hair line and that you’ll love the results (keeping in mind that it could take months before you see absolutely noticeable results) is a healthy way of looking at things.

With surgical hair transplant procedures, it’s all too easy to get sucked into glossy magazine articles, glowing celebrity endorsements and shiny marketing speak. We look at all these images we’re bombarded with and believe the hype – why wouldn’t we?

But here at the DK Hair Klinik in Antalya, we believe in being upfront, honest and most importantly, fully managing the expectations of all our patients.

What we’re NOT saying is, that we’re no good and that you should avoid us! Of course we’re not. We truly believe that we’re the best, and our real life endorsements back that up.

What we ARE saying, is that no one should believe a hair clinic that promises flashy claims such as

“100% SUCCESSFUL – ALL TRANSPLANTED HAIRS WILL GROW”

“GREAT RESULTS FROM YOUR HAIR TRANSPLANT GUARANTEED!”

These claims simply aren’t true and are at best misleading, at worse truly upsetting for someone who has put their life savings, their trust and quite literally their scalp in the hands of an unscrupulous hair surgeon or clinic.

The DK Hair Klinik Guarantee

Here, we like to shout about the genuine success rate that we see with all our patients:

• At least 80% of our transplanted hair grafts will grow and survive
• Our consultants are on hand to answer any questions or concerns you have for a full year after your hair transplant

Each and every single patient we see is different. First off, we absolutely will not promise to carry out a hair transplant on someone, male or female, if we don’t think they have a great chance of a having a successful hair restoration procedure. We’re not about taking your money.

Secondly, we have a robust set of rules, procedures and techniques that assure each patient that we’ll reach the 80% success rate. (By the way, this 80% success rate doesn’t mean that 80% of our patients are happy with their new hair growth. It means that in each patient, 80% of the follicular units we transplant from the donor site to the recipient site settle into their new homes and begin producing new hairs.

To promise that 100% of these delicate grafts will take hold and survive is to lie. Think about planting seeds in your vegetable patch or flower garden – do 100% of them grow? No! It’s accepted that not all of them will thrive, and that’s the same with a hair transplant.
So how do we assure this excellent success rate, increase the survival rate of our grafts and improve the overall quality of the operation? Well, we have lots of ways…

HypoThermasol Helps Extend the Life of Hair Follicles

During our hair transplants, there’s a short amount of time that follicular units (small sections of scalp that contain skin tissue, hair follicles and hairs) have to remain away from the body. Our surgeons expertly remove these units from the donor area of the scalp (usually the back and sides) ready for transplantation into the recipient area of the scalp (usually the front and top).

Whilst the extracted follicular units are waiting to be transplanted into the recipient area, our surgical teams put them into a solution of sterile ‘HypoThermasol’.

Before this golden era of advanced hair transplant procedures, surgeons used to use a sterile saline solution instead. Some clinics still do.

But we know that HypoThermasol is better at keeping follicular units fresh, meaning that there is more chance of them surviving the intricate procedure of transplantation. This translates to a more successful hair transplant in the long run.

Our surgeons keep follicular units in HypoThermasol at a low temperature of between 2-8°C – the optimal temperature for success.

We Don’t Cram too Many Grafts into One Session

A hair transplant is a long procedure, for both you the patient, and for your surgeon and their team. It’s for this reason that we all need to be fresh and focussed. You, because you need to be able to withstand all that time in the surgeon’s chair. And because you need to come away feeling positive and concentrated on recovery which undoubtedly helps towards a successful hair restoration procedure.

Your surgeon and their team also need to have their full attention on you and your scalp.

So, if our surgeons have deemed it necessary for you to have more than 3,500 grafts transplanted, then we will carry out your surgical procedure over two days.

Each one of our patients has a number of in depth consultations to determine how many grafts you’ll need, before we embark on your actual procedure. So you’ll know well in advance if your hair transplant will take place over one, or two days.

It’s normal to feel impatient, and to want things done and dusted as soon as possible. But trust in us and our expert judgement. Your success rate depends on it!

If you do require two days in the surgeon’s chair, rest assured that we have the health of your scalp, its ability to recover easily and your best overall interests at heart.

You Are in Full Control of your Hairline!

We’re not in the business of treating everyone the same or telling you what we think you want. The purpose of our consultations is so that everyone’s expectations are met.

This means that we’ll listen to what you want to achieve from your hair transplant. Then, its your turn to listen, because as much as we want you to be happy, we also want you to understand what results you can expect from your procedure.

We’ll tell you if we can match what you’re looking for, taking your level of hair loss and the health of your scalp into account. We may have to make some minor adjustments given these factors, or we may even be able to give you more than ever thought possible!

If both sides understand the deal from the start, and decide on and create your hairline together, then it’s more likely to result in happy heads all round.

We Take the Time to Get Every Single Detail Spot On

As we’re not in the habit of just doing what we like, part of this joint venture into your hair growth means you relaxing and trusting the expert eye, and judgement, of our surgical teams.

Part of this is also understanding that our surgeons are not only experts in the field of hair transplants, they’re detailed artists too!

Designing the perfect new, individual, hairline for each individual patient that comes through our doors takes skill and dexterity. It isn’t a case of simply visualising and then drawing on a hairline across the front of the scalp from ear to ear. It involves a complex number of different attributes including:

• A natural hairline isn’t dead straight. Instead it has tiny ups and downs creating an uneven line. A straight arc around the forehead would look unnatural and would resemble that of a doll’s head.
• A natural hairline isn’t immediately thick from the very front either. Our surgeons use thinner hairs that grow from single follicles (as opposed to follicles that grow two, three or even four hairs) around the very front of the hairline and then make the hair progressively thicker as it moves backwards across the scalp.
• Hair naturally grows in certain directions depending on where it is on the head. At the DK Hair Klinik, you’re not going to end up with hair follicles implanted facing in the wrong direction so you end up looking like Chewbacca with hair growing downwards all over your face.
• Your age, face shape and your older, natural hairline will also be considered, and your hairline designed according to all of these factors.

With all of these aspects in mind, the more we optimise your hair transplant for a natural look, the more the scalp will adapt to the considerable trauma it is put through during a hair restoration operation. And we all know what that means – a recipe for success!

We Support Each Patient Throughout the Procedure and Beyond

Once our work is done in terms of the actual operation, our work isn’t actually all done. Although the work of recovery very much depends on you and how you look after your scalp, we still take a keen role in recovery and ultimately the success of your hair transplant.

Each patient that leaves us, leaves with a full complement of instructions, lotions, shampoos, head gear and advice for a successful and healthy recovery period . You’ll also have access to a dedicated patient support team, who can help with any queries or worries you have.

Again, the after care advice is different for everyone (so listen to your surgeon, rather than your friend / partner / relative / dog* /stranger on the internet, even if they’ve had their hair transplant with us here at the DK Health Clinic). But generally, our advice for tip top recovery includes the following:

• Eat a healthy diet rich in high protein foods, protein and omega 3.
• Quit smoking long before your hair transplant and definitely don’t smoke after your procedure as smoking can negatively impact wound healing.
• The same goes for alcohol – refrain from drinking alcohol completely for the first seven days and then only drink minimal amounts. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can increase your risk of accidents and the last thing you need is a bump or scrape to your head.
• Rest and relaxation for the first few days! (Especially good is to have your hair transplant with us and enjoy a couple of days relaxing in our boutique sister hotel…).
• Avoid strenuous sports and exercise which cause you to sweat and risk potential bumps and knocks – both of which will impair the healing process.
• Use whatever drugs, lotions and shampoos you’re given by us, and follow the instructions to the letter!

A hair transplant is now considered a routine elective surgical procedure but your scalp is still undergoing a fair amount of trauma. Be gentle with yourself, and your scalp and you’ll stand the best chance of success.

It’ll feel tempting to touch your scalp, inspect it constantly in the mirror and get excited about styling your new hair. But the more you leave contact with your scalp to the bare minimum, the better.

Our Surgeons are, Quite Simply, Brilliant

We do like to blow our own trumpet, and quite rightly so. We’re members of all the necessary boards and bodies that govern surgical procedures in general, and specifically the Gold Standard of hair transplants, the Follicular Unit Extraction (or FUE) method .

This means that we’re regularly assessed, inspected and independently audited and if we were covering anything up about our success rate, we’d soon be found out!

We stick to what we call our AQICS method too, to help ensure the guaranteed success rate of all our hair restoration surgical procedures. This stands for:

• A – Aesthetics – its all about a better appearance, that’s why so many people are opting for hair transplants, so we make sure we do our best to make you look the best version of you
• Q- Quality – over quantity, that is, we’d rather see fewer patients and give them a quality service, rather than simply cramming patients through our doors
• I – Improvement – we constantly strive to improve all that we do
• C- Control – everything we do is tightly regulated and controlled
• S- Science – we use nothing, unless it has been scientifically proven to work

Each day our surgeons and surgical teams come to work prepared to work on improving the life of an individual patient. One day, that patient could be you.

And if it is, expect nothing but the best. From our clinic premises to our staff, the equipment we use and the aftercare we give, everything is exceptional. When we begin, assuming you’re suitable for a hair transplant, each follicular unit will be assessed for its quality. If one doesn’t make the grade, it won’t be used.

We also look at donor density too. This means that we’ll only take follicular units from areas of the scalp with the best donor density. That is, areas with the most premium quality hair follicles, just begging to be placed, and to thrive, in their new home elsewhere on your scalp.

There’s No Room for Poor Hygiene or Sterility at Our Clinic

A hair transplant involves creating open wounds in the skin, albeit tiny ones, thousands of them, in both the donor and recipient areas.

So we have rigorous standards of hygiene. Nothing will hinder successful recovery after a hair transplant more than an infection taking hold.

Clinics with less than rigorous standards of cleanliness including sterilised instruments and clean operating rooms run the risk of introducing a nasty bacterial infection before the newly transplanted hair follicles can even say hello to their new home.

How Do We Measure Graft Success Rate?

Just in case you’re wondering how we manage to determine that our patients see at least an 80% success rate, that all comes in your follow up appointments.

It’s all in our state of the art micro cameras. Our surgeons use these hand held camera devices to take a good look at the health of your scalp both before and after your hair transplant procedure.

After your procedure, our surgeons look at the recipient area of your scalp and assess how many grafts have ‘taken’ and are beginning to successfully grow new hairs.

During this time, usually in the first year of your hair transplant, you’ll be in the exciting stage of hair growth on areas of your scalp that you may not have seen hairs on for years! And if there’s one thing we can categorically guarantee 100%, its that there’s no better feeling than brand new, totally your own, hair!
