Did you Know That Nail Fungus Can Cause a Heart Attack?

The most serious diseases actually begin with minor symptoms.

“Unimportant” health problems that we neglect can progress and eventually become a threat to our lives.

One of them is nail fungus. According to statistics about 20% of the world's population is affected by this disease.

This infection can be easily transmitted from person to person, often manifests itself as a yellow or brown patter, thickening, unpleasant smell, or nail weakness.

Many people with nail fungus perceive it as a cosmetic problem because it does not cause pain. People postpone visiting a clinic or hospital.

However, nail fungus can cause serious health problems that lead to a heart attack, leave alone psychological pressure.

And although the likelihood of a heart attack due to nail fungus is very small, this is indicative of its importance.

What happens if you do not treat nail fungus?

Spread of infection: if not treated on time a fungal infection can enter the bloodstream and cause sepsis (blood infection).

This creates a higher risk especially for people with low immunity, such as diabetes or cancer patients.

Severe pain: Nails affected by fungus may eventually thicken and change shape. This is a warning that the fungus should not be neglected. Pain can become unbearable, especially when you wear closed shoes. This negatively affects the quality of life. If the fungus is not treated the level of pain constantly increases.

Loss of nails: In the later stages fungus can cause the nail to peel off the nail bed because the nail becomes weak and brittle. In some cases, the affected nail can be lost forever.

Vein obstruction: Fungus can enter the bloodstream through the nail bed, spread the infection, and cause inflammation of the blood vessels. As a result of inflammation, the function of the blood vessels is affected, which can lead to serious consequences, such as a heart attack.

This probability is small, but it exists because the blood supply in the nail bed structure is quite intense, and thus microbes can easily enter the bloodstream.

Do not neglect this moment.

How to prevent nail fungus

1. Follow the hygiene rules in places where the fungus spreads easily, such as swimming pools, manicure and pedicure centers, baths, saunas. Try not to remove slippers.

2. Wash your feet and hands with soap regularly. Clean your nails with a brush.

3. Dry your hands and feet. A humid environment promotes fungal growth.

Use gloves when washing dishes. Choose socks and shoes that breathe, change shoes and socks after playing sports, avoid wearing tight clothes that will cause perspiration.

4. If you have fungus on one of your nails do not use the same tools (scissors and files) for the other nails.

5. Nail injuries increase the risk of fungal infection. Consult your doctor if you have seriously damaged your nail. Try not to bite your nails.
